D6 Family Conference 2023
The Sower Institute for Biblical Discipleship, a ministry of The Bible Society of Singapore, organised the D6 Family Conference 2023 centred around the theme ‘All In: Heart, Soul and Strength’. D6 is an annual family ministry conference focusing on generational discipleship. By seeking to apply the principles of Deuteronomy 6, the D6 movement hopes to enable churches and families to pass on a spiritual legacy to future generations. The English Conference was held from 28 to 29 July at Wesley Methodist Church, while the Chinese Conference was held from 4 to 5 August at Singapore Life Church. About 500 participants attended the plenary sessions, which covered pressing issues in generational discipleship. The sessions provided practical insights into building strong relationships with family members.
Dr Ron Hunter, Chief Executive Officer of D6 Family Ministry and this event’s keynote speaker, shared: “We got to experience the incredible chemistry and wonderful conversations that happened in the hallways, in addition to hearing the great speakers who were sharing from their hearts on the different angles of family ministry—whether it is parenting, grandparenting, or as a lead pastor.”
Allan and Jenney, a husband and wife pair from Paya Lebar Methodist Church, expressed that the event has helped them become better parents and spouses. “We keep coming back because we find it very beneficial—not just learning the theories of family discipleship, but practical tips or application too,” they affirmed.

Bible Mission Update 2023
The Bible Mission in Singapore started in 1823 with the distribution of 1,000 Chinese New Testament Bibles to the first Chinese settlers. For the past 200 years, our Society has worked with sister Bible Societies and evangelical communities regionally in pioneering the Bible Mission and advancing the Bible cause. Singapore has been the regional hub for Bible translation and printing projects since the 19th century.
We are thankful for God’s faithfulness and provision, as well as for the partnerships of various donors such as yourself over the years. As we approach the second half of 2023, we invite you to continue to partner with us through your giving and prayers, so that we may allow God’s light and hope to reach more people!

Bible Mission Banquet 2023 and the Launch of the World...
The Bible Society of Singapore commemorated the bicentennial of the Bible Mission in Singapore through a Bible Mission Banquet. Held on the evening of 7 July 2023 at Hilton Singapore Orchard, this marked a significant milestone since the beginning of the local mission in 1823, when missionaries distributed 1000 Chinese New Testaments to Chinese settlers in Singapore. Since then, the Bible Society has served alongside sister Bible Societies and evangelical communities to spread God’s Word. Singapore has since emerged as the regional hub for Bible translation and printing.
This momentous occasion stood as a testament to God’s faithfulness and grace over the Bible Mission through the past two centuries. The Bible Society was privileged to have Minister Desmond Lee, Minister for National Development & Minister-in-charge of Social Services Integration, grace the event. Mission leaders, donors, supporters and volunteers of the Bible Mission also attended the banquet.
The banquet was made possible through the generosity of Dr Stephen Riady, Executive Chairman and Group CEO of OUE Limited, who has also supported various Bible Mission initiatives. Far East Organization and Mrs Dorothy Chan also sponsored the hotel accommodations for overseas missionaries attending the event.
The Sower Awards recognised the faithful work of individuals who have contributed significantly to the Bible Mission. These awards included Volunteers of the Year, Co-Workers of the Year, Benefactors of the Year, and Missionaries of the Year. Bible Society Long Service Awards were also given out to its long-serving members. The Bobby Sng Scholarship for Theological Studies 2023 was presented to recipients to further their pursuit in theological studies.
The official launch of the World Chinese Christianity Alliance (WCCA) was held in conjunction with the Bible Mission Banquet. WCCA is the first language-based global missional platform under the World Evangelical Alliance, with the Bible Society as a founding member.

The Post-Pandemic Church on Mission
This interactive seminar will shed light on the post-pandemic missions context for local churches, drawing from recent local research and observations. Examples of local churches on mission will also be shared. During the symposium, there will also be sharing of case studies of a missional response and adaptation through the pandemic.
ETHOS Seminar 2023: The Origin of Humanity and Evolution: Science...
In this seminar, join Dr Andrew Loke as he shares on his latest book “The Origin of Humanity and Evolution: Science and Scripture in Conversation (T&T Clark, 2022)”, which addresses the intense debate in science and religion in light of evolutionary population genetics. There are many scholars today who claim that science has definitely proven that the Scriptural account of human origins is false. The contribution of this book is highly significant because it shows that these scholars are wrong, and because resolving this area of perceived conflict would greatly benefit both scientific and religious communities by enabling both to work closer together to contribute to the good of humanity. Whilst affirming that the Bible should be interpreted according to proper hermeneutical principles such as considering the literary genre, literary context, meaning of words, grammatical relationship, and the background and concerns of the ancient authors, this book also assesses the scientific data according to proper mainstream scientific methodology. Having accomplished these tasks, it proposes a model which argues that all humans today have Adam as common ancestor even though this ancestor is not our sole ancestor.

DECLARE 2023
From 25 to 28 May 2023, the Arts Collective, a ministry of The Bible Society of Singapore, organised DECLARE 2023. DECLARE is a celebration of God’s Word. Over a span of 72 hours, the entire Bible, from the book of Genesis to Revelation, was proclaimed. Local participants read passages on-site at the Bible House for the Singapore Track, while overseas readers’ pre-recorded narrations were streamed online for the Nations Track. This event saw nearly 500 participants combining their efforts to read the Bible aloud, uniting believers from about 50 nations and 30 languages. The joyous sounds of words, song and prayer revealed Christ’s truth, righteousness and love.
Alex, a participant in DECLARE 2023, described his experience as empowering. “It’s nice that the Bible Society utilises the media in the best way it could to give glory to God and reach out to different nations to come together as one in reading His Word,” he shared.
