The Alphabet Project-a movement of Hope Initiative Alliance-is pleased to partner with SSO @ Bukit Merah, Well & Care In Henderson-Dawson and Yayasan MENDAKI Singapore in The Happy Learners Programme for young children from identified families living in Henderson. Volunteers from SMU and NIE will befriend and engage the children through a 15-month weekly programme comprising educational and team-building activities to develop the children’s social and emotional learning. Through regular engagement with their parents, the programme also hopes to nurture strong parental support for the children’s learning.
ADEO is thankful to have an onsite LIFE Training at FAST Hub! Supported by Ministry of Manpower and FAST, conducted by Caring for Life, 11 MDWs are in training to be community carers!
HIA organised a small-scale National Day celebration event on 7 August 2022 for the rough sleepers residing at both S3P@Bible House and S3P@Yishun Shelter to celebrate 57th National Day. It used the theme Stronger Together, Majulah! and there were fun-filled programmes organised for them, such as team-bonding games for all the residents, a video screening on the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s speech, and followed by the solemn moment where all the volunteers and beneficiaries sang the National Anthem, and recited the Singapore Pledge with full commitment and allegiance to Singapore. The residents were then treated to a sumptuous dinner spread of nasi lemak with various sides, drinks, desserts, and curry puff.
Similarly for the underprivileged community, HIA brought love and care to the vulnerable & underprivileged elderly cardboard collectors/tissue sellers, through a distribution project to bless the poor & needy elderly living in rental flats with care packs and Ang Paos. This outreach project, Love Your (Unseen) Neighbours was co-organised by HIA with contributions from our sponsor, Far East Organisation, together with active participation from more than 20 volunteers from Calvary Assembly of God Church visiting the homes of these elderly clients to befriend, share joy and peace with them.

This LIFE Training is a 4-hours workshop that helps participants identify potential suicide cases and introduce the basic principles of suicide identification and prevention via the LIFE Care Model (LIFE).
This workshop is jointly organised by Sower Institute for Biblical Discipleship (SIBD) and Caring for Life (CFL), supported by the Evangelical Alliance of Singapore (EAS) and Hope Initiative Alliance (HIA).
At the end of the workshop, participants will be equipped with knowledge and skills to:
Apply the concepts learnt in a facilitated role play session
Identify the risk factors and warning signs of a suicidal person
Understand that suicide is preventable and the person is sending out HELP signals
Connect at risk individuals to trained professionals for help.

Having obtained a permit from the Commissioner of Charities (COC) for fundraising, the Bible Society hopes to support the suffering peoples in Ukraine by providing humanitarian relief to meet their basic needs and to provide Scriptures in the hopes of giving encouragement in the midst of war—by reflecting the love of our Heavenly Father through His Word.
The entire Ukrainian nation of 43 million people is suffering from an unprecedented crisis caused by the violent war. As of May 2022, 7.7 million Ukrainians are internally displaced in Ukraine and 5.8 million people have been forced to flee since the invasion of Russia on 24 February. Many women and children were displaced and traumatised people have lost their relatives and friends. This war has created the greatest humanitarian crisis of this generation.
Rostyslav Stasyuk from the Ukrainian Bible Society (UBS) shared: “Colleagues from the Southern branch in Kherson, visited local bomb shelters with Scriptures and humanitarian aid to bring encouragement to people staying there. Our team also continues serving Kyiv.”
We hope to raise USD$200,000 in this campaign to help at least 2,000 families who have been directly affected by the military actions in Ukraine. The fund will be utilised for food, household essentials, first aid and medicine, clothes/blankets, accommodation and transport. We also hope to provide financial resources for the Ukrainian Bible Society to reach its goal of providing 56,000 Bibles to Ukrainians, as it received a staggering number of requests for Bibles.
Through this fundraising effort, the Bible Society works closely with Ukrainian Bible Society and World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) to bring comfort, peace and reconciliation to the Ukrainians. May God, through His eternal Word, have mercy and heal our land in this ever-changing times.

The Alphabet Project (TAP), a movement of the Hope Initiative Alliance distributed bed mattresses and hygiene packs to the underprivileged households on 8 September 2022.
TAP hopes to assist the children from low-income families by providing them reading, writing and storytelling programmes, which eventually helps to build the children’s confidence and unleash their potentials.
We thank our partner from East Canberra Residents’ Network, donors and volunteers for working tirelessly to delivering the mattresses to underprivileged households.
It is our hope that TAP will become a nation-wide project that provides literacy programmes for underprivileged children in Singapore. We hope to provide them the platform to break away from the poverty cycle by building confidence, fostering connections with other children, and integrating with society.

On 21 August 2022, nearly 100 domestic workers attended ADEO’s National Day Event at Bible House, in celebration of Singapore’s Birthday. ADEO organised an afternoon of fun and relaxing activities such as zumba, flea market and picnic.
While being a domestic helper, Jacky never gives up her passion for dance. Together with her team of dancers, who are also migrant domestic workers, they led our migrant domestic sisters in a session of Zumba. It was very heartening to see our migrant domestic sisters enjoyed themselves, dancing their hearts out along with Jacky and her team.
ADEO is very thankful to have gotten the sponsorship of French skincare brand, Clarins. Clarins has very kindly sponsored our migrant domestic sisters with travel size bottles of body lotion, facial cream and lip oil. Our migrant domestic sisters were very delighted and thankful to be able to receive these items. Ms Ashley Thng, the Marketing Director of Clarins, came down to show her support for ADEO’s event and thanked ADEO and our volunteers for “dedicating our Sunday to hold such a meaningful event for the migrant domestic workers.”
Through this event, ADEO also welcomed many first-time volunteers including Ms Laarni De Leon and Ms Tri Windarti who are migrant domestic workers themselves. ADEO was encouraged to see our migrant domestic workers stepping up to volunteer in an event for their migrant domestic sisters and we hope to see more such volunteers step up to care for their fellow migrant domestic sisters in Singapore.
ADEO is comforted to see our migrant domestic sisters enjoying themselves and we hope that the ADEO community continues to grow in partnership and collaborations in serving the MDWs.
