On 27 February 2024, D6 Family Ministries hosted a virtual session of D6 Family Night on Zoom, focusing on the theme Loving and Serving Across Generations. This session brought together a panel of speakers to explore how families can serve God and one another across different age groups. The panelists included Ps Charissa Cho, Youth and Young Adult Pastor at Community of Praise Baptist Church; Ho Wei Hao, co-author of The Generations Project; and Benjamin Mathew, a young adult leader and full-time ministry worker. The session was moderated by Jonathan Cho.
The discussion highlighted the unique challenges and opportunities presented by the presence of multiple generations within the Church. Ho Wei Hao noted that, for the first time in history, five generations—ranging from the Silent Generation to Gen Z—are co-existing in churches today. He emphasised the importance of understanding the cultural influences that shape each generation’s perspectives and how these differences can impact Church dynamics. The panelists discussed the need for intentional efforts to bridge generational gaps and foster unity within the Church community.
The session also addressed the issue of generational exodus, where certain age groups, particularly Gen X and Millennials, have left churches due to unmet needs or misunderstandings. The panelists shared personal experiences and insights on how to create an inclusive environment where all generations feel valued and supported. They encouraged families to engage in open communication, mutual respect, and collaborative service to strengthen intergenerational relationships. The session concluded with a call to action for families to actively participate in loving and serving across generations, reflecting the unity and love that Christ exemplified.
