D6 Family Night 2024: Finding Truth in Every Lie

On 13 November 2024, the Centre for Advocacy, Relations and Engagement(CARE) which is a ministry of The Bible Society of Singapore, and D6 Family Ministries, organised the D6 Family Night. Conducted over Zoom, the seminar drew families, educators, and ministry leaders together for an evening of learning and reflection on a timely theme—how cultural myths shape, and often distort, the values and practices within our homes. The event sought to equip parents and caregivers with Biblical insights to discern the messages that modern culture promotes and to counter them with God’s timeless truths.

The session featured two engaging speakers: Elvin Foong, co-founder of The Treasure Box Singapore, and Carol Loi, Singapore director of Generations of Virtue. Both brought rich experiences in family discipleship and intergenerational ministry. Elvin spoke candidly about the subtle but pervasive myths that society presents as norms—for instance, that busyness equates to success, or that children must excel academically at all costs. He emphasised the importance of parents reclaiming intentional time with their children, modelling spiritual rhythms of prayer, Scripture reading, and rest. Carol built on this by addressing myths surrounding identity and relationships, noting how digital media often influences children’s self-worth and worldview. She challenged families to cultivate open communication at home and to create safe spaces where difficult conversations can be anchored in Biblical truth.

The seminar concluded with a lively Q&A, where participants shared their struggles in navigating cultural pressures and received practical advice from the speakers. Many expressed appreciation for the reminder that while cultural myths may change with time, God’s Word provides a steady foundation for family life. The event encouraged attendees not only to guard their households against harmful narratives but also to actively nurture faith that will endure through generations.
