Colours of the Bible: Basic Watercolour Workshop 2024

On 17 and 25 May 2024, Colours of the Bible (COB) held its Basic Watercolour Workshop, bringing together art enthusiasts for two meaningful sessions of creative exploration. The workshops provided a platform for individuals of all ages and backgrounds to learn foundational watercolour techniques in a welcoming and encouraging environment. The sessions were designed not only to teach participants the basics of painting but also to foster a sense of community and reflection through the arts.

The workshops were led by Saveen Dsouza, the first-place winner of the COB Art Competition 2023, whose own journey with art has been inspired by his Christian faith. Saveen guided the participants through various techniques such as colour blending, brushwork, and layering, making the sessions accessible to beginners and enjoyable for those with some prior experience. With patient instruction and interactive demonstrations, he encouraged participants to express themselves freely whilst keeping the process fun and therapeutic. Many participants appreciated the opportunity to slow down, engage with Scripture-inspired themes, and connect with others through the shared language of creativity.

More than just an art class, the Basic Watercolour Workshop embodied COB’s mission to use the arts as a medium for spiritual growth and community building. By engaging both heart and hand, the workshop created a space for participants to reflect on God’s beauty and truth through visual expression. The sessions reminded us that creativity is a gift from God, and when shared in fellowship, it becomes a powerful tool for inspiration and encouragement. Events like these continue to affirm the role of faith-inspired art in drawing people closer to one another and to the Creator Himself.
