Colours of the Bible 2025: Synagogue Tour at the Maghain Aboth Synagogue

In June and November 2025, Colours of the Bible (COB), as part of The Bible Society of Singapore, hosted its Synagogue Tour at the historic Maghain Aboth Synagogue, the oldest synagogue in Singapore and a national monument. The event welcomed participants from diverse backgrounds, offering them the rare opportunity to step inside this significant landmark and gain a deeper understanding of Jewish heritage, culture, and faith practices. Guided tours highlighted the synagogue’s unique architecture, religious artifacts, and the rich history of the Jewish community in Singapore, creating an engaging and educational experience for all.

The programme provided participants with more than just a guided walkthrough. Attendees were able to explore the traditions that have shaped Jewish life, while learning about the continuing relevance of the synagogue as a place of worship and cultural identity. Volunteers and resource persons offered insights into rituals, symbolism, and the role of the synagogue in community life, allowing visitors to appreciate the depth of Jewish customs. Many participants remarked on how the tour broadened their perspective and deepened their respect for Singapore’s multicultural and interfaith landscape.

This year’s COB Synagogue Tour exemplified the initiative’s mission of promoting cross-cultural dialogue and mutual understanding through the arts, heritage, and storytelling. By creating a platform for participants to learn directly within a sacred space, the event strengthened bridges between communities and fostered greater appreciation of Singapore’s diverse religious tapestry. The success of the tour reflects COB’s ongoing commitment to celebrating cultural heritage while encouraging dialogue across faith traditions. With enthusiastic responses from participants, the 2025 Synagogue Tour stands as a meaningful milestone in the Colours of the Bible programme, inspiring continued efforts to build harmony through knowledge and shared experiences.
