Better Together: Intergenerational Collaboration – Global and Local Perspectives and Practices

The Sower Institute for Biblical Discipleship (SIBD), a ministry of The Bible Society of Singapore, recently held Better Together: Intergenerational Collaboration – Global and Local Perspectives and Practices, a four-session workshop designed to help leaders, church members, and professionals embrace the value of working across generations. Facilitated by Dr Asia Williamson and Dr Allen Yeh, both highly respected international leaders and educators, the programme addressed how organisations and faith communities can foster collaboration by recognising the unique strengths that each generation contributes.

The workshop sessions covered key themes essential for thriving multigenerational communities. Beginning with a Biblical foundation for intergenerational collaboration, participants reflected on how Scripture calls believers to honour one another across age divides. Subsequent sessions explored the barriers that often hinder cooperation, such as communication gaps, generational stereotypes, or differing priorities. Practical strategies were also shared on how to build trust, foster mutual respect, and establish inclusive practices that empower all generations to contribute meaningfully. The final discussion and Q&A provided an opportunity for participants to raise real-world challenges and explore context-specific applications in both workplace and church settings.

Participants left the event with renewed conviction and practical insights to create environments where intergenerational teams can flourish. Many noted that the workshop broadened their understanding of how global perspectives on collaboration can be applied locally, especially within Singapore’s diverse church and organisational contexts. By recognising potential pitfalls and intentionally practicing respect and inclusivity, attendees were encouraged to lead initiatives that promote unity while harnessing the diverse skills of every age group. As SIBD continues its Better Together series, the hope is that more individuals and communities will be equipped to build bridges across generations, modelling collaboration that reflects the richness of God’s design for His people.
