In the spirit of expressing appreciation to the community of guest workers in Singapore, the Alliance of Guest Workers Outreach (AGWO) – a movement of Hope Initiative Alliance – partnered SowCare and the Alliance of Indian Ministries – ministries of the Bible Society of Singapore – to host the inaugural Banquet of Appreciation at the Fullerton Hotel on 13 October 2019. The banquet saw the attendance of Mr Heng Swee Keat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, as the Guest of Honour.
Gathering 350 guest workers from six different Asian countries – as well as 100 over dormitory owners, employers, community partners and government officials – the banquet aimed to thank our guest workers and encourage dialogue on how to better care for their community. There were also four ethnic performance items by Joshiley Bhangra Singapore, New Life Christian Centre, Crown of Glory Nepalese Fellowship and My Saviour’s Church Dance Ministry.
The inaugural Banquet of Appreciation then also launched 24 other Feasts of Appreciation for guest workers across Singapore, as well as an AGWO mobile app that aims to provide them with access to various services and adequate assistance.
The entire committee and partners would like to thank Far East Organisation and the Fullerton Hotel for their generous sponsorship of this inaugural banquet.
The Feasts of Appreciation would later reach out to more than 10,000 foreign workers in total.
